Sunderland’s State of the City Event 2011 took place at City Space, University of Sunderland, on the evening of Wednesday 14th September. Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to all those who took part online, for helping to make it an interesting evening.

During this year’s State of the City Event, an audience member made the point that Sunderland should be very proud of having one end of the C2C cycle route in the city, and suggested that we should do more to let people know about it. This is a really good point and we thought we would take the opportunity here to let everyone know about the end of the route.

There is a large granite sculpture “C” situated on the seafront at Marine Walk which marks the end point of the C2C route for cyclists and it has proved to be a popular photo opportunity for people celebrating the end of their journey.

As part of our developments along the seafront, the current sign adjacent to the sculpture is to be updated to be more specific about the end destination and a new sign is to be installed at Sue’s Café on Marine Walk, a stamping station for C2C participants, giving information on the end point of the route. In addition a new sign has already been installed at the Marina that states that the “C” sculpture is the end point.

The official C2C website also gives information about the end point in Sunderland which can be found at the following link: http://www.c2c-guide.co.uk/directions/sunderland/. Following on from the comments made at the State of the City Debate we are going to update the official C2C website to make more of the opportunity this website offers us to tell people about Sunderland.
